Who we are

EyeInTheSky is a Wikimedia changes monitoring system.

The main instance of this application at https://eyeinthesky.im/ is operated Simon Walker (also known as stwalkerster). This policy applies only to the application running at https://eyeinthesky.im/ and on the Libera Chat IRC network as EyeInTheSkyBot

More information about EyeInTheSkyBot and the EyeInTheSky project can be found on the project's page on GitHub.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

We collect the following information about you:

The data above is used to provide the service and protect against abuse. Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the lawful bases we rely on for processing this information are:

IRC bot control

If you choose to link your account on Libera Chat to the bot, your Libera Chat account name will be stored in order to identify you in your communications with the bot.

Other information which is received from Libera Chat as part of the IRC protocol includes your hostname or IP address, your ident response (often containing your operating system username), and the content of the "real name" field.

This information may be retained in log files which are kept for no more than 30 days.

In practice, most users will use a Libera Chat cloak to obscure their hostname or IP address, most users will not run an identd server to provide an operating system username, and most users will not populate the real name field with identifying information. All of this data is collected by Libera Chat and distributed to all users with whom they interact or share a channel, and is usually queryable by others on the platform too.

Notifications and account recovery

We require an email address linked to your account for the purposes of account recovery, password resets, and to send notifications of any events you have indicated an interest in.

Who we share your data with

Your username and Libera Chat account name are made available to other users of this service. Additionally, your registration date and last login date, as well as information indicating whether your email address is confirmed and which methods of authentication you have enabled are shared with those who administer this service.

Data about your identity on IRC, including your nickname, ident, hostname or cloak, and channel memberships you share with the bot are also available to other users of this service.

We will not share your data with third parties for direct marketing purposes.

How long we retain your data

Data stored in log files, including data obtained from IRC, is retained for 30 days.

Data required to run the service, including your authentication data, username, and email address, is stored indefinitely while you hold an account on this service.

It is possible for you to remove your personal data at any time by deleting your account.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account registered with the bot, you are free to request a copy of the data associated with your account. This can be done from within your preferences on the service.

You also have the right to for the data to be erased - which you can perform yourself from your preferences.
